Social media strategy for bloggers

You’ve set up your blog and have written some amazing blog posts. Great job! But have you caught yourself checking your analytics and wondering why there is no one on your blog? Well let me give it to you straight. No one (besides your friends and family) is going to see your blog if you don’t market it! You need a good social media strategy.

To put it simply, social media marketing brings traffic to your blog. Your awesome content is what keeps them coming back for more.
You need both in order to be a successful blogger.

HOW TO CREATE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING PLAN

First, decide when, where, and how often you will publish and market. Start with 1 platform at a time!

Here’s a simple example

Where: Pinterest

What: 30 pins/ day:10 of my own content and 20 of other creator’s content

When: I automate and schedule all posts on Sunday nights

How: By using Tailwind

After you have gotten your basic social media strategy down you can tweak things like time of day, number of posts, etc until you find what works best for your blog and your brand!

Tweaking your social media strategy will be critical in finding your audience and your following!

Alright, now let’s move on to some tips to get you going on creating a social media strategy!

Social Media Strategy Tip #2: Consistently publish awesome content

All forms of SEO including Google, Pinterest, and Instagram favor consistent creation of content. It is critical for your blog and business to create the marketing and editorial calendar that you can consistently stick to.

It is much better to publish content once a week rather than publishing content daily for 3 weeks and then taking a month-long break. Consistency is key.

This is critical for SEO purposes as well as for growing a devoted following. Your people need to know that you will show up for them when you say you will. So create your marketing strategy and stick to it!

Social Media Strategy Tip #3: Re-evaluate your strategy quarterly

As I mentioned earlier it is important to review your social media strategy on a regular basis. You need to figure out what is working and what is not. In order to do this, be sure to keep track of your stats. The stats we track for both our blogs include:

  • Followers on each platform
  • Pageviews
  • Sessions
  • Session duration
  • Income generated

We track these stats on a monthly basis but we only review and update our social media marketing strategy quarterly.

Social Media Strategy Tip #4: Optimize your Blog for your Social Media Strategy

Include social share buttons and a pop up like MiloTree

To make it very easy for your readers to share your content install plugins that will allow readers to share content directly from your blog. To ways to provide social sharing icons is by using either the Social Warfare plugin as low as $29/ year or by using Tasty Pins also $29/year.

You can also install the MiloTree popup. (Affiliate Link) This is a small popup that shows up on each blog post encouraging your readers to follow you on either Instagram or Pinterest. It’s an easy no-stress way to passively gather followers. Despite being a search and discovery engine Pinterest followers actually do actually matter!

Note: We are an affiliate for MiloTree. We love the product and would never recommend it if we didn’t! Our affiliate code allows us to earn a small commission at no cost to you!
